Safety Tips
How to stay in control, and what to keep in mind when meeting people in real life.
ConnectIRL is built to keep you in control. These Safety Tips explain the tools you have and things to keep in mind — especially if you decide to meet someone in real life. They are guidance, not guarantees. Please also read our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
If you are ever in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first (in the U.S., call 911). Then report the user to us.
1. You are in control
- Invisible by default. You never appear to anyone unless you choose to be discoverable.
- Pause anytime. One tap makes you invisible again and deletes your current location record.
- Approximate only. Others never see your exact location — only a fuzzed, rounded, capped distance. There are no maps, pins, or tracking.
- Block and report anyone, from anywhere they appear. Blocking is mutual and immediate.
- You choose what to share. Your social links are shown only as you decide, and connection requests are yours to accept or ignore.
2. Protect your personal information
- Share contact details, socials, or your location with someone only when you are comfortable.
- Remember that anything you reveal (like a social handle) can be seen or saved by the person you reveal it to.
- Be cautious of anyone who pressures you, asks for money, or wants to move off the app immediately.
3. If you choose to meet in person
- Meet in a public place with people around, at least the first time.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to be back.
- Arrange your own transportation so you can leave whenever you want.
- Stay sober enough to stay aware, and keep track of your belongings.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, leave. You never owe anyone your time or your continued presence.
4. Important: we do not screen users
ConnectIRL is a platform for opt-in discovery, not an introduction or screening service. We do not conduct background checks or verify the identity, statements, or intentions of users. You are responsible for your own interactions, and you assume the risks of communicating with or meeting other people. See our Disclaimers and Section 7 of our Terms.
5. Reporting
Report anyone who violates our rules or makes you feel unsafe, right from the app. You can also email safety@connectirl.app. Reports are confidential; we do not tell the reported person who reported them.
